Jelly's sidekick, peanut butter, is churning up some chatter. The popular sandwich staple is debuting six new flavors at the Nelson Farms Country Store. Just in time for the holidays, consumers can now feast their palates on Dashing Thru the Dough (cookie dough), Jungle Apeel (banana), I Want Smore (smore), I Think My Flax Are Sexy (flax-seed butter), The Dark Side of Things (dark chocolate), and I'm a Sap for Peanuts (all-natural maple).
The number nine glowing through the side of Justin Larmon's project drew towering attention to the neatly four-tiered, red and white shelter he built to the likeness of a wedding cake. The digit was a daunting reminder of the massive devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans that left thousands of people homeless, and a reference to actor and film producer Brad Pitt's “Make it Right Foundation” to help rebuild the hard-hit Lower 9th Ward.
Professional football hall of famer and Syracuse University superstar Floyd Little will give a presentation at Morrisville State College Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. in the STUAC theatre. His speech is free and open to the public. A three-time All-American and 1966 ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Player of the Year at Syracuse University, Little was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983 and the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 2010 along with Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Russ Grimm, John Randle, Rickey Jackson and Dick LeBeau.
Morrisville State College students are reaching out to raise awareness about hunger and homelessness. Some will gain a sense of what it feels like to be homeless when they sleep out overnight in handmade shelters while others will spearhead a campus-wide brigade to collect items for the needy. Their effort is just part of what faculty, staff and students on the Morrisville State College campus are doing to raise education, action and awareness about hunger and homelessness during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Nov. 14-20.
The 2011 Morrisville State College Dairy judging team completed another successful year, placing in several competitions. Members of the judging team were: Tyler Clark, of Cambridge; Mike Laspada, of Clymer; Patrick Sweatman, of Sherman, all animal science—dairy associate degree majors; and Courtney Furst, of Moravia, a dairy management, bachelor degree major. All are active participants in the college's Dairy Club.
Morrisville State College's Office of Workforce and Development is offering a free Building Analyst course at the Morrisville campus. The five-day course will be offered Nov. 7-11 and again Jan. 9-13, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tables brimming with vibrant-colored bouquets, boutonnieres and floral-crafted pumpkins filled a production room in Morrisville State College's horticulture complex—the work of horticulture students diligently transforming stems of miniature Calla Lilies, roses and other blooms into stunning showpieces. They were there helping Melissa Orth, a Morrisville State College horticulture graduate who flew in from California to prepare a floral array for a weekend family wedding.
Morrisville State College's Office of Workforce and Development is offering a free course in Basic Air Sealing and Insulation (BASI), Oct. 21 from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Morrisville campus. The one-day overview of BASI will introduce students to the fundamental concepts of Building Science and Building Performance, in addition to the “systems approach” and techniques for air sealing and insulation.
LEED® green training is among the free community education courses being offered through Morrisville State College's Office of Workforce and Development. The three-day course, LEED® Green Associate, will be held Oct. 3-5, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Morrisville campus. The same course will be offered again April 16-18, 2012.
The Morrisville College Equine Institute will hold its twenty-second annual Fall Yearling Sale Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at the college's Nancy Sears Stowell Arena on Swamp Road. The preview day for the sale, the largest of its kind in New York state, is Sept. 24. A total of 202 yearlings are up for sale. Eighteen of them are being sold by the Morrisville Equine Institute: five yearlings of Conway Hall; four yearlings of Cash Hall; two yearlings of RC Royalty; four yearlings out of the first crop by Kenneth J; and three yearlings of American Ideal.
