Senior attackman Adam Lewis (Painted Post, NY) posted four goals and an assist, including the game winning tally, as Morrisville State men's lacrosse handed visiting The College at Brockport the 8-7 non-conference loss Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. Morrisville State improves to 2-0 on the season, while Brockport drops to 0-3. Tied at two after one quarter, Lewis tallied the lone score of the quarter to give Morrisville State the 3-2 lead at the half.
The Morrisville State College athletic department has named western rider, Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, VT) and men's lacrosse attack, Brandon Macera (Chittenango, NY) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 6.
The Morrisville State College western equestrian team had 11 riders advance to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) semi-final championships following their finish at the regional championships on Sunday. Morrisville State was high point team for the year, claiming regional champion honors. Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, VT) was crowned the champion in both the reining and open western horsemanship classes, and completed the year as the high point rider for the region. She advances directly to the national competition in Lexington, Kentucky in May.
The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team compiled 32 team points and placed fourth overall at the Hartwick College Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competition on Saturday. Jill Featherly (Hilton, NY) earned reserve high point rider honors following her first place sweep in the intermediate equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat classes. Layne Simonin (Tivoli, NY) earned the blue ribbon in the novice equitation on the flat class and Nicole Griffin (Chaumont, NY) was top rider in the walk trot class.
The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team opened the 2011 season campaign Saturday afternoon with an 11-10 non-conference victory over visiting SUNY Oswego on Drake Field in Morrisville. In a back and forth first half battle, Oswego held the 7-6 advantage at the break before Morrisville State tallied four unanswered scores in the third quarter, two on man up opportunities, for the 10-8 lead.
The Morrisville State College athletic department has named western equestrian riders, Tanya Ashford (Wapwallopen, PA) and Wyatt Carbaugh (Greencastle, PA) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 27. Ashford won the intermediate II western horsemanship class in both shows Sunday to remain undefeated. She has been selected as the intermediate team rider for Morrisville State the Zone 2, Region 3 Championships held at the western semi-finals on March 26 in Findlay, Ohio.
Morrisville State College senior net minder, Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC) is following his dream of playing hockey professionally, signing with the Reading Royals to an Amateur Tryout Agreement on March 1, 2011. The Reading Royals are a member of the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League), a Premier “AAâ€‌ Hockey League.
The Morrisville State College western equestrian team posted high point team honors twice in Sunday's show, completing the regular season with an undefeated 8-0 record. Topping the competition with 251 team points throughout the season, Morrisville State will be representing Zone 2, Region 3 at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) western semi-finals team competition in Findlay, Ohio on March 26th.
The Morrisville State College men's basketball season came to an end Friday night as fourth seed Gallaudet University claimed the 80-69 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship tournament quarterfinal game over the Mustangs in Middletown, PA. Morrisville State concludes the 2010-11 campaign with a 12-13 overall record, 10-8 in conference action, appearing the NEAC tournament for the second straight season.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) recently announced its 2010-11 Men's Basketball All-Conference selections, naming Morrisville State's Wayne Turner (Brooklyn, NY) and Dwayne Wade (Beacon, NY) to its second and third team, respectively.
